Bidjar carpets are known for their sturdy, depressed-warp weave packed full with wool pile. With this in mind, the supple and indeed pliable handle of this fine example is quite noteworthy. Using a classic Persian pattern of repeating palmettes known as the harshang design, hues of rose, sky-blue, khaki, and ivory are set against a background of modulated deep indigo and slate. A series of fine narrow borders complements the delicate sense of composition.
