Bokhara Suzani

Mid 19th C.
Uzbekistan
DESCRIPTION:

Three columns of design make up the field of this Suzani embroidery from the Central Asian city of Bukhara. In the central column, palmettes radiate in both directions vertically from a central twirling rosette. Flanking either side of this column are smaller colorful blossoms extending horizontally. All are encompassed by verdant foliage and vine-scroll. A classic oscillating vine-scroll border combines large, twirling, burst rosettes with multi-lobed flowers in the corners and a pair of distinctive quatrefoil cluster of red floral palmettes at the center of the left and right sides. Collection of Sam Barakat
