Shahsevan Kilim

Late 19th C
Caucasus
DESCRIPTION:

Combining bold geometry with pure color, this Shasevan kilim from the Moghan plain in the south Caucasus draws alternating bands of blue and red. These bands are interspersed by thin white stripes with meandering geometric vine scroll. While large latch hook diamonds are drawn within octagons against the blue sections, free standing diamond devices form rows against the madder red portions. These motifs create a graphic interplay between positive and negative spaces. Collection of Dr. and Mrs. William T. Price
