Woven near the Caucasian border in Northwest Persia, this 'khorjin,' or saddle bag set, joins two pile bag faces, each with colorful and evocative red stepped diamond centers. The internal workings of each draw abstract branching motifs, perhaps derived from vegetal imagery but with distinctly zoomorphic characteristics. Small white animals and geometric ornament punctuate the indigo fields and similar motifs are drawn against the white borders.
