Qashqai Kilim

c. 1900
South Persian Tribal
DESCRIPTION:

Woven on a pleasant pistachio-green ground this Qashqai kilim traces an abstract branching geometric form across its field. Indigo tendrils culminate in small pinwheel devices woven in light silk. The white in the border is likewise woven with cotton. Within the central square panel a name is inscribed reading, "Kuchak Khan" or "little Khan", either the name of a specific personage, or more likely the title of the owner of the kilim. Property of the Thomas D. Cook Family Collection
