Using a rare but highly successful white field, this exceptional Caucasian rug from eastern Azerbaijan draws rows of ornament associated both with the Chichi group as well as earlier Dagestan pieces. Of particular interest is an iconic cruciform element formed from negative space. Color is diverse and glistens against the white field. Of particular merit is the replacement of the more typical geometric Chichi border with a particular pleasing green-ground 'kufic' variant using a deep saturated madder-red.
