This colorful sumak panel was part of a 'mafrash' cargo bag woven in the Moghan - Savlan region of the south Caucasus. It makes use of a rare but distinctive pendant format drawn across an elongated indigo field. This repeat element is known from a small but celebrated group of sumak saddle bag faces and its appearance on a mafrash side panel is quite unusual. Color in this piece is rich and diverse including several blues, greens, and aubergine.
