Luri rug

Mid 20th Century
Persia
DESCRIPTION:

"Yalameh" rugs are essentially "Luri" rugs, more than "Qashqa'i." This piece probably comes from a group once known--maybe still known--as "Shekarlu." If "Yahameh" is a tribal name, then it is a tribe that came out of the larger Shekarlu family. (The border gives it away but all the other designs fit in, and the rather clunky drawing distinctly suggests something "late.") This weaving group always had exceptional wool, as one observes in antique examples.
