Gendje

Late 19th C
Caucasus
DESCRIPTION:

Gendje rugs, as they are known in the trade, were woven in the vicinity of the town of Ganja situated in Azerbaijan's Caucus Mountain range. This region is known particularly for its long and narrow pile carpets. This fine example makes use of vivid natural color and crisp geometric drawing. Contrast is superb aided both by superior color and skilled and deliberate use of white.
