Zili khorjin

Late 19th C
Caucasus
DESCRIPTION:

Executed in the flatwoven zili technique, this 'khorjin' double saddlebag set draws a colorful tessellated pattern of diamonds layered with latch-hook ornament. The dark ground provides for excellent contrast. The geometry of this design may be indicative of the weft wrapping technique used to render it and may give insight to similar designs seen in pile weavings such as Jaf Kurd bagfaces.
