This large flatwoven Caucasian zili cover was most likely woven in the Karabagh region. Using a dark black wool warp and madder-red wool weft, a deep kilim ground is created. Supplementary wrapping with an array of colorfully dyed wool and cotton white creates a large grid design with each square section formed punctuated by a diamond elements. The result is a well articulated, handsome, and authentic domestic weaving.
