Afshar bagface

Afshar weavers rapidly adapted the boteh, or paisley, from luxurious Persian textiles in the 19th century. While other weaving groups also transposed the boteh into knotted pile, the Afshar used it as a design element more frequently and with more diversity than any other tribal group. This elegant Afshar bag face uses a variety of boteh that resemble plump scorpions with jagged edges, drawn diagonally in colorful rows across the field. A classic Afshar diagonally striped border gives a counterweight to the orientation of the field.
