Tabriz carpets of the 19th and early 20th centuries are renowned for balancing fineness of design with a a sturdy but exacting weave. This Tabriz carpet draws an elegant all-over field design of repeating shrubs and jewel like quatrefoil starbursts. Traditional Northwest Persian linked palmettes are rendered in the border with exceptional clarity and refinement. The rug’s colors are soft and pleasing. Unlike many so-called ‘antique’ Tabriz carpets on the market today, this piece has not been color stripped or ‘antique washed’ and is free of the corrosive chemicals used in these destructive processes.
