Using a diverse palette of soft but radiant tones this superb Caucasian runner draws an array of abstract floral forms. A lattice traced against a pale yellow ground surrounds colorful blossom palmettes drawn in profile evoking an almost Byzantine aesthetic. A light madder-red border draws a column of graphic rosettes and is flanked by a network of repeating delicate geometric floral forms. This Caucasian weaving is difficult to localize. Certain features of drawing and weave suggest a Shirvan designation while others may point to an origin further north or west.
