The Avars are descendants of people of the same name that made their way into Eastern Europe and the Caucasus in the sixth century from Inner Asia. At the time, they were fleeing the expanding power of the Gok Turk Khaghanate. This Avar rug draws three Leshghi stars within an octagonal lattice against a deep red ground.
Condition Report
Very good condition with slight wear. Original selvedges and knotted warps one end. A small amount of synthetic red outlining the medallions.
