Often when observing Persian carpets, it is easy to conceive of a central medallion surrounded by blank space as encompassing its own separate plane or seemingly floating from the field. Indeed, the central diamond punctuated by small multi-colored rosettes drawn in this charming small Bakhshaish rug does just this. More unusual, however, is the way in which the entire border system of this piece seems to be suspended in space as well, as the radiant ivory ground extends from the field to envelop the entire composition.
Minor re-piling in one corner.
