Bidjar

Fine drawing combined with sturdy construction are the hallmarks of great Bidjar carpets. This elegant over-sized example is in keeping with some of the best of the genre. Delicate rows of alternating persianate motifs are drawn against a deep rose field in jewel-like tones of blue and green. The major geometric quatrefoil forms as well as the outlining of palmettes and representation of foliage are all constructed from stylized lilies. A narrow indigo border flanked by lighter guard stripes is the perfect framing for this delicate composition.
