Bidjar carpet

Woven with the sturdy construction for which Bidjar carpets are renowned, this over-sized piece glistens with a rich jewel-like palette of color. Ruby, emerald and aquamarine hues glisten forth from a rose ground. The field draws the classic harshang pattern using an over-all field design of rotating palmettes, shrubs, and blossoms. This is a favorite of Bidjar weavers and is one of the more popular field designs for eighteenth and nineteenth-century Northwest Persian rugs in general. A dark indigo-ground border of Persian palmettes drawn in a Neoclassical style frames the composition.
