Chichi rug

Chichi rugs from the east Caucasus are largely defined by their fields which draw rows of alternating geometric ornament. Against an ivory ground, this happy Chichi alternates rows of geometric pinwheels with rows of ‘Memling guls’. Each is interspersed with smaller rows of reciprocal arrow-heads. Layers of borders frame the field including a particularly well articulated ‘kufic’ main-border.
