Three large and boldly articulated medallions in the style of early Kazak weavings from the Caucasus dominate the vibrant madder-red field of this historically important and masterfully executed example from eastern Anatolia. The treatment of this iconic central medallion as repeat ornament is innovative and highly successful. While exceedingly true to the spirit of drawing and its execution, the distinctive construction of this piece reveals it as the work of a particularity skillful Anatolian weaver.
This piece was published in “Oriental Rugs from Pacific Collections” in conjunction with the International Conference on Oriental Rugs (ICOC) in 1990.
