The colorful diagonally striped field of this Caucasian Gendje rug mimics the patterning of fine Persian and Near Eastern textiles of the 18th and 19th centuries. Meandering blossoming vine-scroll is interspersed throughout each stripe. Latch-hook ornament, reflecting Caucasian and Turkish folk weaving traditions, is drawn against the vivid madder-red ground of the main border.
