Colorful Uzbek chapans or over-coats were the quintessential garment for both men and women throughout Central Asia. This stunning example has been made from a textile using the ikat technique in which the design is dyed on the warp before weaving. This results in shimmering waves of color tracing each drawn element and color zone. This round pattern flanked by paisleys or boteh is relatively rare but quite an enjoyable design canvas for such rich and vibrant color.
