Set against an indigo field, this plush runner draws a column of several types of radiantly colored palmettes alternating in rows of two and one. It was most probably woven by Shahsevan pastoral nomads in the Karadagh border region of Northwest Persia using some of the best wool and natural dyes available in that region (or for that matter, anywhere in the Near East). Borrowing elements from local village weaving, a ‘harshang’ border frames the piece and renders the classic design in a full saturated spectrum against a white ground. Property of a San Diego California collector.
