Karadagh runner

Woven close to the border of the Caucasus, this pre-export runner displays a main border design taken from rugs of the neighboring Caucasus. This is the predecessor of the later well known Karaja (Karadja) rugs that were dominant in runner production in the late 19th and early 20th century. This runner displays the exceptional colors rarely found after the mid 19th century. Touches of folk art confirm the nomadic and village roots of the weavers.
