Kashan

This classic early twentieth-century Kashan carpet paints springs of flowers either emanating from pots, clustered around stylized palmettes, or arranged in individual bunches. While the initial impression the piece gives is that of an all-over field design, indeed a small medallion garlanded by flowers occupies a central corner-stone position. A sense of deep contrast is achieved through a limited palette of rich red and indigo.
