Though woven by nomadic pastoralists, a surprising number of South Persian tribal rugs display patterns adapted from urban Persian textiles and weaving. This Khamseh rug draws rows of paired paisleys or, as they are known in the literature, ‘mother and daughter botehs’ against an ivory ground. This design originated in Persian and Indian shawls. Scale is large and color is vibrant.
