Kirman

This fine oversized Kerman corridor carpet from southeastern Persia melds the classicism of early Persian medallion carpets of the Safavid age (1501-1722) with the elegance and grace of a Kashmir shawl. The rose ground is most likely derived from lac, imported from neighboring India. A central medallion is drawn with traditional anchor pendants at either end and punctuated by smaller gyroscopic medallions. Intricate drawing within these structures and the border is balanced by copious areas of open space in the field.
