This jewel of an east Caucasian rug draws a host of folk motifs within a lattice of abstracted ivory foliage. Rows of colorful shrubs, flowering plants, eight-pointed stars and even human figures atop horses glow against a deep indigo ground. The piece is framed by a diverse border system with an ivory ground ‘leaf and cup’ variant a three smaller medium blue minor variants imparting a dynamic sense of movement.
