Kurdish Runner

This long Kurdish runner from Northwest Persia draws rows of ‘boteh’ paisleys in shades of madder-red with gold and white highlights across an indigo blue field. With any repeat design of this length there is a danger of the design becoming monotonous. A playful variation is achieved in this piece by the skillful use of ‘abrash’ or color modulation rendering subtle but discernible bands across the field. These are then further delineated by slight changes in the size and scale of the paisley elements. The main border is comprised of slim colorful diagonal bands.
