This Luri Bakhtiari salt bag was woven by a nomadic tribeswoman in the area west of Isfahan. The front is executed in sumak technique and draws alternating rosettes and foliage, of the type more frequently encountered in the ornament of carpet borders, against a modulated slate green ground. A crisp cotton white border is decorated with colorful linked boxes across the entire perimeter. A decorative band of wool pile is woven at the bottom, which adds color and reinforces this more vulnerable area.
