Malayer carpet

This floral Malayer carpet from central Persia provides a creative take on a classic all-over design, the repeat “Herati” pattern. The central rosettes used in this design are typically scaled much smaller with a greater emphasis placed on the quatrefoil articulation of the central lattice and reciprocal leaves of the design. Here, this central floral motif becomes by far the largest and when highlighted by white paints a deep and moving contrast with the darker indigo blues of the field.
