Northwest Persian

A classic “palace size” carpet, this is truly a remarkable weaving. The best wool and colors to be found in Persian rugs of this period were used. The medium scale ‘Herati pattern’ is composed of a veritable rainbow of colors against an indigo ground. The small yellow medallion and corner pieces adds a sense of proportion without overwhelming the composition. The “sister carpet” to this piece is in the diplomatic reception rooms at the State Department.
