Woven in the Kurdish region of Northwest Persia, this happy runner blends influences from 18th and 19th century Persian textile art with a more rustic village aesthetic. Colorful ‘boteh’ paisleys are drawn with detailed round tracery against a modulated aquamarine ground in an apparent large scale rendering of finer Persian woolen and silk textiles. An equally colorful border is drawn against a contrasting deep terra cotta ground border, which dynamically plays with negative space. The section of striped elements is playful and uncommon but a very successful rendering of this border type.
