Portuguese Needlepoint

This eye-dazzling piece from the mid-20th Century would work perfectly on the floor or the wall, either horizontally or vertically. Portuguese needlepoints were woven from at least the sixteenth century. Due to the maritime history of the nation, design influence has been varied with Indian inspirations particularly popular throughout the eighteenth century. This piece, using contrasting black and white and a yellow to green gradation, is a perfect example of how the traditional technique was adapted in the twentieth century to create designs fully in tune with European modernist aesthetics.
