Woven with un-dyed camel wool used for both field and frame, Serab runners generally follow a regimented structure of drawing and design. Those that deviate from the norm tend to be very special pieces. Such is the case with this example. The proportions of the medallion and anchor ornament drawn in the field of this piece are elongated and highly stylized, lending a more rustic village aesthetic to the composition. Of particular merit are the stylized animals drawn against the camel sides of the piece. A solitary pair of quadrupeds appears toward the middle. Similarly, abrash, or modulation of color, is used to offset a lighter central section in the field.
