Serapi carpets from Northwest Persia are renowned for their balance of bold and playful drawing. This exceptional piece uses the traditional layout of a medallion set within a field with corner spandrels but layers the entire composition with an all-over design, the so-called “mina khani” pattern, more often seen in neighboring Kurdish weavings. In the spirit of great Serapi carpets, the resulting composition is equally highly inventive and pleasing.

Guard stripe missing both ends. Minor repair to selvedges. Some moth damage on reverse. Some rewoven and repaired areas.
