This kilim, woven by Shahsevan tribal weavers, was produced in the border area between Persia and the Caucasus. The Shahsevan were comprised of several tribal and ethnic groups brought together by the Imperial Persian crown in the 17th century as a buffer force of loyal tribesman to guard the vulnerable northwestern frontier. This Shasevan kilim alternates solid color stripes with diagonal bands and rows of diamonds for a truly tribal and colorful geometric aesthetic.
