Shahsevan reverse sumak khorjin
This complete khorjin saddle bag set is woven in the reverse sumak technique and makes use of a signature repeat design associated with that technique. Stepped ‘ashiks,’ punctuated at each outside corner with diamonds, are drawn within a colorful hexagonal grid. Likewise, linked hexagons punctuated by ‘S’ motifs and related ‘E’ forms are linked against the white border. This is a classic example of Shahsevan reverse sumak weaving from the Hashtrud-Miyaneh region of east Azerbaijan in northwest Persia.
