Diné weavers began incorporating small figurative elements into their textiles in the late 19th century, and by the early 20th century, fully representational compositions started to appear. This figurative textile of Tsé Bit’a’í (Shiprock) integrates a variety of grey, white, black, and salmon-colored yarns to create an atmospheric depiction of the monumental rock formation, full of shadows and light. Notice that the weaver includes a border along each side, resembling a framed painted canvas.
