Shirvan Prayer rug

This elegant Shirvan prayer rug from the South Caucasus uses the classic composition for this genre: several varieties of stylized flowering plants interspersed within a lattice drawn on an ivory ground. The “mihrab” niche is boldly articulated and complimented with a central diamond-shaped form creating what almost looks like a face. The golden border is particularly pleasing.
