This Central Asian suzani displays a format seldom seen in these embroideries. The main border is both simple and comparatively narrow. Columns of quatrefoil clusters composed of pomegranates radiating from central floral bursts form an all-over field pattern. The geometry of this design may originate in Persian and Indian textiles of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The drawing, however, is distinctly Central Asian.
