Tabriz rug

Carpets were woven in and around Tabriz from at least the fifteenth century. This quality smaller scatter rug represents a later manifestation of this tradition. A classic persianate medallion is drawn against an ivory field. The medallion, border, and corner-pieces are integrated by detailed floral ornament of several types.
