By the third half of the 19th century Diné weavers had developed new approaches to their designs and compositions by expanding designs vertically and increasing these designs in overall scale. The large zig-zag designs in alternating and bold colors in this textile are enlarged for visual impact and presence. The vertical orientation of these designs moves the eye up and down, rather than across the horizontally woven weaving.
