Afshar bag face

This pile bagface is one of a pair from an Afshar ‘khorjin’ double saddle-bag set and is drawn with a central diamond traced with latch-hook ornament. The particular rendering seen here with central white ‘endless knot rosettes’ and a network of surrounding elements is more typically seen in the tribal weavings of Southwest Persia such as those of the Qashqai. The colorful white-ground border, however, composed of linked diamonds and roses is quintessentially Afshar.
