Afshar flat woven salt bag

This large Afshar salt bag is woven with bands of flat woven weft-float, creating crisp color-on-color repeat geometric designs. While this technique was employed among the Afshar for large storage bags and animal bags, there are fewer salt bags in which it is used. Perhaps the larger size of this piece accounts for the weaver’s implementation of this weft float technique here.
