Baluch pile weaving has been informed throughout its history by the traditions of neighboring groups. This complete double saddle bag set, or ‘khorjin,’ draws thin bands in alternating pile and flat weave in the manner of fine Tekke Turkmen tent bags. The larger of the two types of pile woven bands with their geometric repeats, seen on both bag faces, are most likely derived from pile ornament seen in Turkmen ‘aq chuvals’ and ‘kizyl chuvals’. However, the thinner flat woven bands alternating on the bag faces and those of the back are quintessentially Baluch.
