Bidjar

Bidjar carpets are known for their sturdy weaves and delicate drawing—a combination that does not come easy and depends heavily on the skill of the weaver. This piece depicts a repeat arrangement of trees and flora including willow, cypress, and more stylized shrubs and branches. This distinctive combination is a favorite throughout Northwest Persia and among Bidjar weavers in particular. Here the vegetation is drawn slenderly and precisely against an ivory field. Though the all-over composition is quite harmonious, no two rows of design are identical. A classic narrow palmette border accented with gold, rose, and blues elegantly frames the piece.
