Bidjar runner

This elegant Bidjar runner balances the grandeur of a room size medallion carpet with the refinement of a more intimate piece. Runners present the weaver with a challenge in their composition. Their narrow width limits the potential impact of field design, and the longer they are the more chance there is that a repeat design can be seen as repetitive. This runner masterfully breaks through this paradigm. With a sturdy Bidjar weave and fine detailing, an elongated cartouche-shaped medallion is drawn spanning the width of the field at its center. Supplementary medallions are drawn in white and red on opposite sides, incorporating garlands of small ‘boteh’ paisleys in some while alternating medallions play on the repeat floral ‘Herati’ pattern of the field. The colors are exquisite and vivid with a particularly radiant gold.
