This fine little Fereghan rug was woven as a ‘balisht,’ or pillow cover, in central Persia. The medallion format is borrowed from larger pieces, but seems particularly suited for this small jewel-like piece. A colorful star formation in the center is supported by a mosaic of diagonally oriented colorful boxes in the corners. This geometry is complimented by naturalistic flowering plants drawn in each quadrant of the field.
