Woven in the south Caucasus, this Gendje runner draws a field of colorful diagonal stripes containing small multicolored shrubs. This design, originating with Persian textiles of the 18th and 19th centuries, was quickly adapted as a design for pile weaving by weavers across Northwest Persia and the Caucasus. The leaf border is likewise a classic regional Caucasian variant, and is faithfully conveyed here with two narrow geometric guards on either side.
